About
History
Lorosa’e English Language Institute (LELI) is an independent educational institution that has been providing high-quality language training in Timor-Leste for nearly twenty years. Originally established in 2002 to provide English lessons for those working in the humanitarian and development sector, LELI has since developed considerably and is now widely recognized as the country’s premier Language Training Organization.
“We deliver language training at our centre or off-site to a wide range of national institutions, international organisations, and high-profile individuals. Furthermore, we provide a complimentary range of other high-quality language related services…”
LELI’s primary focus remains English language training, so we employ a dynamic team of experienced, highly qualified EFL industry professionals, capable of designing and delivering a comprehensive range of relevant and contextually appropriate English language courses to suit the specific needs of our extensive client base.
We are the only institution in Timor that offers the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exams.
Over the last few years, we have expanded into other markets and have established a hugely successful Tetun language training department, and a flourishing Portuguese language department that caters to senior government officials and foreign diplomats amongst others. We also provide Indonesian language training upon request.
In 2014, we embarked on our most ambitious project to date and realised the construction of a purpose-built, 16-classroom training centre. With the completion of our new facilities, LELI now has the resources to provide a level of language training and related services unrivalled in Timor-Leste.
Professionalism, attention to detail, adaptability, innovation and first-rate customer service has earnt LELI a reputation for outstanding quality amongst respected national institutions and prestigious international organizations.
Mission
To provide the highest quality language training and related services in Timor-Leste.
Vision
To be recognised as the country’s leading language training organisation that builds the skills and knowledge of Timor-Leste’s people, improving their academic and professional prospects, and providing increased opportunities to participate in the continued development of the country.
Staff
LELI employs an almost equal number of international and locally employed staff. All of our international staff are professionally qualified teachers and hold a degree, a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from Cambridge University or equivalent EFL accreditation and have at least 5 years teaching experience.
“Our Timorese teaching staff have all completed our in-house teacher training course and have extensive teaching experience.”
Our team of senior staff hold a range of language related Masters’ Degrees and/or post-graduate EFL specific qualifications such as the Cambridge DELTA, DipTESOL or IDLTM and have a wealth of industry experience, so our teachers are suitably supported to design and deliver courses using well-considered pedagogic practice.
Training Centre
We designed and built our training centre in 2014, but we are continually developing and improving the space to ensure the best environment for effective learning. We have created modern, fresh and comfortable spaces, filled with natural light to ensure excellent conditions for studying and plenty of room for positive, informal interaction. The training centre has sixteen classrooms over three floors, and it has been designed and furnished throughout to create a professional yet relaxed learning environment.
